The Cursed Ship - Review

Obviously, The Cursed Ship from World-Loom and G5e is one of the most uninteresting-named HOPAs recently. In contrast with its boring name, The Cursed Ship was a blast to play!

 For iPhone and iPod Touch
 HD for iPad

Name: The Cursed Ship Collector's Edition
Release Date: 01 May 2014
Developer: World-Loom/G5 Entertainment

Your cooperation sent you to reveal the secrets of the missing luxurious cruise, The Ondine. During your mission, you found yourself waking up in an unfamiliar place with a mysterious mirror by your side. Explore the parallel worlds and learn all the horrors of this cursed ship. The storyline is definitely nothing we have not seen before; nonetheless, it is creepy and entertaining with complex twists and astonishing characters to interact with. Each character has its own professionally-recorded voice-over and is very nicely drawn. The main character actually reminds us of the lead girl from the legendary Phantasmat.

The Cursed Ship is probably the most polished game published by G5 of late. The visuals are hauntingly beautiful with a nice  balance between bright and dark scenes. The visual effects, shadows and flashing lights are superb and really help added a sense of creepiness and uneasiness into the atmosphere. The music is well done, although it can be a little too calm at some point.

The gameplay is straightforward though solidly-built; there are no extra features or tools to help with your investigation nor are any extras to stimulate the game. The Hidden Object scenes are standards and puzzles are typical, yet, fun to play. As for the value; if we are asked to pay for the game, we would be more than happy to do so. The Cursed Ship is not only pretty darn fun and exciting, it also featured quite a nice length as well. The only thing that really bugged us when we played the game was the navigation. There is no map so you have to rely on your feet to travel around the ship. unfortunately, the inventory bar is a little too huge and it usually takes us a couple of taps just to go back to the previous location.

After all, The Cursed Ship is something you would want to add into your iPad HOPA collection. Whether you are a hardcore HOPA player or not, The Cursed Ship is something you would not regret.
