Name: Elixir: The League of Immortality
Release Date: 05 December 2013
Developer: Vogat Interactive/G5 Entertainment
After 3 years of waiting, the long-awaited sequel to the hit Hidden Object Adventure game, Elixir of Immortality has finally arrived. Unfortunately for PC/Mac users, the game is currently only available for iPhone/iPad.
After so many years, there are definitely some noticeable improvements. Firstly, the graphics are much, much better in this sequel. All of the scenes involve some 3D-elements so they do not look flat, the graphics are incredibly sharp and several scenes look beautiful. The steam-punk theme of the game is what really makes Elixir so amusing to play and the developer takes on the theme very well. The animations are better than most of the HOPA games out there, the cutscenes look amazing and the characters move swiftly.
The story centers around the dead of the mayor and you, as the famous detective have to hunt down the killer, reveal secrets about the Elixir of Immortality and discover mysteries of the secret league behind it all. Although this serves as the sequel to 2010's title, there is nothing really related between the two games - The League of Immortality would do well as a stand-alone game.
The gameplay of Elixir is very predictable with loads of backtracking as there is no map available. Luckily, there are Hidden Object scenes which are nice and clear as well as a huge variety of puzzles are spice things up. The puzzles are fun to play and they have the right difficulty, not too difficult nor too straightforward.
Overall, Elixir: The League of Immortality does nothing to stand out from the crowd but with awesome graphics and good puzzles, it can entertain you for a few solid hours.
