Mayan Prophecies: Ship of Spirits - Review

Name: Mayan Prophecies: Ship of Spirits Collector's Edition
Release Date: 05 October 2012
Developer: Elefun Games

Mayan Prophecies: Ship of Spirits from Elefun Games brings you on a journey on a ghost ship, your mission is to rescue your husband and reveal the secrets of the Mayan? The title of this game is a little bit misleading, 'Mayan Prophecies' might not be the best name for this game. Although there are several aspects of the game refer to the Mayans including those Mayan idols and few art style, however, the story itself is not so related. The game should better take place on an ancient Mayan island not on a secret ghost ship full of monstrous creatures and a criminal! There is also no 'Prophecy' whatsoever in the game, or even if there is, it takes a tiny role on the plot.

This doesn't mean the story is uninteresting, the story itself is very captivating, it will keep you glued to the screen and want to finish the game all at once. But even you are really engaged and wanted to finish the game  in one play, you might not be able to. Can you believe that we have to replay the game twice just to finish the game? This game is full of bugs and technical issues, as we searched the forum, we noticed many people faced the bugs in the game too, not just us, and each person faced different bugs, we wonder how many bugs there are in the game!

Let's move on to the good bits. Mayan Prophecies has gorgeous artwork! All locations are very detailed and have nice colors. Cut scenes are also expertly created as well as the voice overs and the music. On the other hand, graphics in Hidden Object scenes are not as great, they are a little bit fuzzy.

Hidden Object scenes are very well balanced with the mini games. In Hidden Object scenes, if you getting tired of searching for objects, you can always switch to Mahjong mode, a very useful addition! Puzzles are very entertaining, they are mostly not unique but with few little twists.

The navigation of the game is brilliant! There is a map on the left bottom corner, it indicates where you are and points out the location with available tasks. You can use the map to jump directly to the location, this is very useful because there is no need for the annoying backtracking!

Mayan Prophecies has a bunch of Collectibles for you to search for. This includes 44 Mayan artifacts pieces, 32 Mayan calendar, 44 beyond (or morphing) objects and over 32 hummingbirds (in HO scenes). There are also zillion of achievements to collect, a really addicting feature! The main game lasts around 3-4 hours for fast players in the easiest mode which is a reasonable length, however, the Bonus Chapter is a little bit short and the plot is not so interesting.

Despite the fact that there are loads of bugs in the game and few little flaws, this game is simply wonderful! Great graphics, amazing gameplay and tons of Collectibles!!!
