Name: Dark Alleys: Penumbra Motel Collector's Edition
Release Date: 14 May 2012
Developer: ERS Games Studios
We’ve complaint quite a lot about the unoriginality of ERS’s hidden object games. Finally, they’ve decided to try something new, but did it actually works? This is the first time for ERS that they use real-live actors in their cut scenes, in fact, they did an excellent job on it, the actors have very well acted and they did quite a splendid job on lip syncing unlike many developers that voices doesn’t match the actor’s mouth! It’s also the very first time that the developer did make a very dark, depressing game like this, although it’s not new to the genre but ERS usually makes creepy HOG but still with some beauty apart from this one! You also have a collection box you use to collect amulets and film reels which is an interesting addition; you can use these items in many stages in the game! Music are also different, they’re suitable and sound more mysterious, dissimilar to other ERS’s piano and violin’s melodies! Unfortunately, graphics in this game are not as good as other ERS’s games; they’re very grainy and quite dull and most scenes are uninteresting. Story is also very simple, another story about a missing girl and a kidnapper. Even so the details about World War 1 are fairly interesting! The gameplay focuses mainly on puzzles since this is an Adventure game with no HOG scenes, most puzzles are quite tricky, unfortunately, the skip button refills very slowly! The CE version comes with standard extras, a fair Bonus Chapter, wallpapers, soundtracks, screensavers, concept arts and a strategy guide. We’re glad that ERS finally did try something new, although it still has many flaws, it’s not the best game from the developer but also worth to be given a try!
